“The help you provide are the provisions you desire to receive”
I am Diane Conley and I am running for Burke County Board of Commissioners. I was raised in a strong family with a drive toward caring for others. This upbringing has led me into a life of service that started in healthcare and progressed toward working as a licensed Occupational Therapist. My spiritual upbringing inspired me to hear the calling of God and follow my heart into the ministry as an ordained minister.
These life choices have led me to look outside the window and see the needs of others. I see the issues of homelessness, jobs, and crisis intervention as pivotal issues for Burke County.
The homeless situation is broad and has many interwoven threads. Jobs, crisis intervention, mental and physical healthcare are all aspects that not only impact the homeless population but a vast majority of Burke County residents. Helping the homeless helps us all.
For example: Burke County has many state parks and wild spaces. If we capitalize on support services for the tourism industry, not only in Morganton, but in all of Burke County, we can bring in more, living wage jobs, that will not only help our homeless population, but the jobless as well. Those jobs will create economic growth and increase tax revenue that the county can use to fund and reinforce other areas of county government.
I can’t see where the current county commissioners have put in any real effort in working with the homeless population throughout the county. There are organizations and agencies focused on different aspects of homelessness. We need a concerted, coordinated effort to bring all these together in all of Burke County. By lifting the homeless and caring about others, we lift ourselves.
I am Diane Conley and I am running as your next Burke County Commissioner. Remember to vote for me in November.
